About Japanese Beauty Edit
Japanese Beauty Edit is an independent beauty journal dedicated to Japanese skincare, cosmetics and the ideas behind them.
This is not simply a product review site.
I created Japanese Beauty Edit because I have always been fascinated by the thought, research and craftsmanship that go into Japanese beauty products.
Behind a bottle of skincare, there can be years of research, carefully developed formulations and a deep attention to how a product feels and fits into everyday life.
I wanted to create a place where that side of Japanese beauty could be explored and appreciated.
When I discover a product I love, I don’t just want to know whether it “works”.
I want to understand why it was made, what is in the formula, what those ingredients are intended to do, and how the product fits into a wider skincare routine.
That is the approach I take here.
Japanese Beauty Edit explores:
- the ingredients behind Japanese skincare
- the science and ideas behind formulations
- Japanese skincare routines and rituals
- the brands creating these products
- the textures, fragrances and experience of using them
- and, of course, the products I personally choose to use
I also share my own experiences, but I try to distinguish those from the facts.
What a product contains, what an ingredient is intended to do, and how a product feels to me are three different things.
I believe keeping those distinctions clear makes beauty information more useful — and more trustworthy.
Why Japanese beauty?
Living in London, I have access to products from all over the world.
Yet the skincare I use every day is overwhelmingly Japanese.
There is something about Japanese skincare that continues to appeal to me: the combination of research, attention to formulation, thoughtful textures and the idea that skincare can be both effective and enjoyable to use.
I also admire the people behind these products — the researchers, formulators and teams who continue to develop Japanese beauty technology.
Japanese Beauty Edit is, in part, my way of celebrating that work.
